E-Book Systems has extended the OEB format to make it a streaming format (OEB++) allowing users to view the first pages of an electronic book even before it fully downloads. Thus, while a viewer is reading pages one and two, pages three and four are downloading so that when the ‘page’ is turned, the subsequent pages are already loaded. This streaming format is ideal for use in an online product catalog or multi-page brochure, or an illustrated audio adventure such as our Ruby eBook.

In addition to most commonly found features on present Internet browsers, the ‘FlipViewer’ adds to the browsing experience:

  1. Regular web pages are automatically compiled as pages of an e-book. The FlipViewer remembers every page giving the user quick access to previously viewed web pages as well as easier page navigation.
  2. Contents of pre-authored electronic books, product catalogs, photo albums or presentations are stored on the web and can be organized in a virtual ‘book’ format with cover page, contents, start page, index, end page, etc. All content is streamed to the user.
  3. It is easy to email a FlipBook, or link to one because the XML in the FlipBook points to the content which can be stored on the Web or an intranet.
